By its own rules it has no leader, and none of its 250 candidates is a student or was ever a member of the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS); the first of them is the cardiologist Ilija Srdanović. In the parliamentary election of 25 October 2026 it won the most votes, about 52% against 39% for Aleksandar Vučić's United Serbia in the electoral commission's count, and Vučić conceded defeat that night.
History
Students began blockading their faculties in late November 2024, first at the Faculty of Dramatic Arts in Belgrade, and ran the movement through open assemblies (plenums) that decide by majority vote and have no leaders. Their demands were the publication of all documents on the station's reconstruction, the prosecution of those who attacked protesters, the dropping of charges against arrested students and a larger higher-education budget. On 5 May 2025 they demanded early elections and said they would back a list of their own on which no student would stand. The plenums chose the candidates and vetoed University of Belgrade rector Vladan Đokić as the first of them. After Vučić called the election on 9 September 2026, a citizens' group of 14 founders filed the list on 14 September with 69,099 valid signatures, nearly seven times the number required, and the electoral commission proclaimed it the next day. Several opposition parties, among them the Democratic Party, backed it instead of running; European Serbia ran on its own. On election night the final CeSID and Ipsos projection gave the list 140 of the 250 seats, above the 126 of a majority; the commission had not yet allocated seats on 26 October.
Positions
Its 11-point "Student Plan", under the motto "Justice. Knowledge. Development.", promises a vetted special police unit to investigate corruption, a law on illegally acquired assets and a review of officials who abused office, publication of all public contracts and a stronger State Audit Institution, a media regulator and public broadcaster free of party control, an end to party hiring in the public sector, free school textbooks, fixed-term employment capped at 12 months instead of 24, farmland and water protected as national assets, and "a doctor in every village". The full programme sets no length for its term in office. In Radio Free Europe's summary of the lists' positions, it is against sanctions on Russia, regards Kosovo as an inseparable part of Serbia under the constitution and would put membership of the European Union to a referendum, and it takes no position on NATO. Mining decisions would follow independent assessments of their effect on water, land and health. Reference works describe it as reformist and anti-corruption, and place it as a big tent.
