He belongs to no party, backed the student-led protests after the Novi Sad canopy collapse and was one of the 14 founding signatories of the citizens' group that filed the students' electoral list. He was 91st on the Student List – Students Win, which won the most votes in the Serbian parliamentary election of 25 October 2026.

Career

Born in Belgrade, Saičić graduated in chemistry in 1983, took his doctorate in 1991 and did postdoctoral work at a CNRS institute in France in 1995–96. A full professor at the Faculty of Chemistry since 2002, he headed its organic chemistry department from 1999 to 2003 and has chaired its ethics committee since 2020. He became a corresponding member of SANU in 2012 and a full member in 2018. He works on organic synthesis, including natural products such as taxol, and has published more than 80 papers. In June 2025 he signed a SANU petition calling on President Aleksandar Vučić to resign, and in May 2026 he walked out of a SANU exhibition when Culture Minister Nikola Selaković was due to speak. Wikipedia and Danas report that pro-government media targeted him over his support for the students. On election night he addressed supporters on the list's behalf, calling for calm.

Positions

Saičić calls the government corrupt and argues for the rule of law, transparent public contracts and hiring on merit. In an RTS interview in October 2026 he said a new government would honour legally binding contracts in Serbia's interest, including those for Expo, but would review them and publish documents now kept secret; who leads the government, he said, would be decided by the new MPs together with the student movement. He said shared aims such as equality before the law, education reform and protecting land and forests from new mines mattered more than differences of belief within the movement. He favours 'productive relations with Russia', citing energy needs and historical ties, calls Kosovo 'temporarily occupied territory' to be dealt with through negotiation rather than war, and sees Republika Srpska's future as part of the Serbian people's future.
