Career
Jovanović graduated in acting from the Faculty of Dramatic Arts in Belgrade in 1990 and joined the Yugoslav Drama Theatre the same year, appearing in Baal, Bure baruta, Beogradska trilogija and Čikaške perverzije, among others. On television he played Lune in Srećni ljudi (1993–94), Pesa in Stižu dolari (2004–06) and Drakče in Moj rođak sa sela (2008–11); his films include Barking at the Stars (1998), Cabaret Balkan (1998), The Professional (2003) and Comrade Black in WWII (2009). He was the singer of the comic rock band The Cuguars, which released two albums. His awards include the Golden Bell, given by the children of Novi Sad, and the Golden Charter for his role in Čikaške perverzije. He confirmed his candidacy on 13 September 2026 while helping citizens who were queuing in Zemun to sign in support of the list, and toured Serbia with the students during the campaign.
Positions
Jovanović joined the protests from late 2024: he sang an adapted 'Gaudeamus igitur' for the students, wrote the song 'Znam' in March 2025, sang at the Vidovdan rally at Slavija on 28 June 2025 and, during the Zemun blockades that summer, passed messages between police and protesters, telling officers the crowd was 'your people'. When the president and the patriarch called the protests a colour revolution, he replied that they were coloured by the blood of the canopy victims and of beaten young people. On 24 April 2026 he was pepper-sprayed near Serbian Progressive Party stands in Zemun and called it 'another very bad move by the authorities'. In August 2026 he urged the opposition to back the students, describing the contest as one between good and evil rather than ideologies. Before the final rally he said he hoped power would be handed over peacefully.
