Career
For more than three decades Baucal has researched how children and young people learn and develop and how schools can serve them better, publishing more than 200 papers; he is a member of the International Academy of Education and editor-in-chief of the European Journal of Psychology of Education. He founded and first directed Serbia's Centre for Evaluation in Education and has taken part in education reforms in Serbia and the region for more than two decades, arguing for schools in which every child has a good chance to learn and grow into an independent, responsible person (movement's page).
Positions
In February 2025 Baucal told N1 that the students had created new hope, that their demands were elementary, asking only that institutions do their job and answer for failures, and that the rectors were right to refuse President Vučić's call for talks. In March 2025, when professors' pay was withheld, he said the authorities treated the budget as theirs to use for political ends (021.rs). In June 2025 he said professors had given up on the government, would join the students' Vidovdan rally, and saw elections as the only way out. In 2023 he suggested viewers test television coverage by imagining Angela Merkel in the leader's place.
