Born in Caransebeș, Grindeanu studied mathematics and informatics at West University of Timișoara (1997), social statistics at the University of Bologna (1999) and military science at the National Intelligence Academy (2013). He was deputy mayor of Timișoara from 2008 to 2012, Minister of Communications from December 2014 to November 2015 and president of the Timiș County Council from June 2016 to January 2017. He served as Prime Minister from January to June 2017, when a no-confidence motion removed him after he lost the support of party leader Liviu Dragnea. He was Deputy Prime Minister from November 2021 to June 2023 and Minister of Transport and Infrastructure from November 2021 to June 2025.
