Drulă attended the Tudor Vianu National College of Computer Science in Bucharest and holds bachelor's and master's degrees in computer science from the University of Toronto. He joined the USR in 2016 and was elected to the Chamber of Deputies in 2020. He was Minister of Transport and Infrastructure from December 2020 to September 2021, acting party president from February to July 2022 and president from July 2022. He announced his resignation as president on 10 June 2024 after poor results in the local and European Parliament elections; Dominic Fritz has led the party since June 2025.
