Ugljanin, born in 1953 in Mitrovica and a dentist by training, was mayor of Novi Pazar and minister without portfolio from 2008 to 2014. The party holds two seats in parliament. The list is a national-minority list in the 25 October 2026 Serbian parliamentary election.

History

The party was founded on 29 July 1990 in Novi Pazar as the Sandžak branch of the Sarajevo-based Party of Democratic Action; Sulejman Ugljanin has been its president since then. In 1991 it set up the Muslim National Council of Sandžak, which held an autonomy referendum that Serbian authorities declared unconstitutional. It won 3 seats in 1990, boycotted several 1990s elections, took 12.75 percent and one seat in 2003, and has held one to three seats since. Ugljanin was a Federal Assembly member from 1997 to 2000, mayor of Novi Pazar from 2004 to 2008, minister without portfolio from 2008 to 2014 and a member of the National Assembly from 2014 to 2016. His list in the 2014 Bosniak National Council election won 19 of 35 seats.

Positions

Wikipedia describes the party as advocating Bosniak minority interests, Bosniak nationalism and autonomism, places it from centre-right to right-wing, and says it historically advocated a radical Bosniak nationalist and Islamist ideology. Its rival in Novi Pazar is the Sandžak Democratic Party of Rasim Ljajić, who left the party in the 1990s, and the Party of Justice and Reconciliation of Usame Zukorlić; all three seek the votes of Serbia's Bosniaks.
