It is led by Rasim Ljajić, born in 1964 in Novi Pazar, a physician who founded the SDP and the Social Democratic Party of Serbia, was a minister and deputy prime minister until 2020, and has presided over FK Partizan since 2024. The list stands in the 25 October 2026 Serbian parliamentary election.
History
The Sandžak Democratic Party was founded in 1994 by Rasim Ljajić and others who split from the Party of Democratic Action of Sandžak, and took its present name in 2000. It governs Novi Pazar and holds 12 of 35 seats on the Bosniak National Council; Samir Lekić has been its president since April 2024. Ljajić, a graduate of the Sarajevo medical school, was a federal and state-union minister from 2000 to 2006, labour minister from 2007 to 2012, and deputy prime minister and trade minister from 2012 to 2020. He founded the Social Democratic Party of Serbia in 2009, led it until 2026, and became president of FK Partizan in October 2024.
Positions
The SDP represents Bosniak minority interests; Wikipedia gives no detailed programme. The affiliated Social Democratic Party of Serbia, which Ljajić described in 2023 as anti-fascist, anti-populist and solidarist, has contested elections on the SNS list since 2014 and backed Aleksandar Vučić for president in 2017 and 2022. Ljajić has compared the link between the two parties to Germany's CDU/CSU. In 2026 the Social Democratic Party of Serbia is on the list headed by Dačić, while the SDP and CDP run separately under the slogan "time for normality".
