Career

Nikšić graduated in law from the University of Mostar in 1986 and worked in Konjic's municipal administration from 1988, serving in the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina during the war. He joined SDP BiH in 1993 and became its Konjic branch president in 1994. He was Konjic deputy mayor in 2000 and sat in the Federal House of Representatives from 2001 to 2011. He was Federation Prime Minister from March 2011 to March 2015, became SDP BiH president in December 2014, was elected to the state House of Representatives in 2018 and not re-elected in 2022. High Representative Christian Schmidt's intervention allowed his appointment as Federation Prime Minister again on 28 April 2023. In February 2026 he signed an agreement on a joint run in the 2026 general election.
