Vukanović taught in elementary school in Trebinje and worked as a journalist at RTRS in 2007-2008 and at BN TV until 2014. He ran for mayor of Trebinje in 2012 and received 27.56%, losing. He founded For Justice and Order in 2014 and was an adviser to Mladen Bosić, chair of the House of Representatives, from 2014 to 2018. He has sat in the National Assembly of Republika Srpska since November 2018 and was re-elected in 2022. In May 2026 he declared a candidacy for the Serb member of the Presidency.
