Career

Bećirović studied history and geography at Tuzla (1998) and took a master's (2004) and doctorate (2010) in history at Sarajevo. He sat in the Tuzla Cantonal Assembly from 2000, in the House of Representatives from 2006 to 2018 and in the House of Peoples from 2019 to 2022. He took 33.5% in a 2018 Presidency bid that failed, then won the Bosniak seat in 2022 with 57.4% against Bakir Izetbegović. He chaired the Presidency in 2024 and again from March 2026.
