Born in 1970 in Buenos Aires, Milei worked as an economist, including about fifteen years as chief economist at Corporación América, and became a well-known television pundit in the 2010s. He led the Libertarian Party from 2019 to 2024, was elected a national deputy for Buenos Aires in 2021, and served until 2023. He won the presidency in the November 2023 runoff against Sergio Massa and took office on 10 December 2023. Since 2024 he has belonged to La Libertad Avanza.
