Bullrich began in Recreate for Growth (2002–2009) and joined PRO in 2009. He was a national deputy in 2005–2010, Minister of Education of the City of Buenos Aires in 2010–2015 and National Minister of Education in 2015–2017. In 2017 he won a Senate seat for Buenos Aires Province, beating the list headed by Cristina Fernández de Kirchner by a little over four percentage points. He resigned from the Senate in December 2021 after an ALS diagnosis, which he has made a public cause through a foundation for research and education.
