A former Commerce Department official and co-chair of Bernie Sanders's 2020 campaign, he is named in the Presidential Election Winner 2028 race, due on 7 November 2028, as a possible contender.
Career
Khanna graduated from Yale Law School in 2001 and clerked for a federal judge. He was Deputy Assistant Secretary at the U.S. Department of Commerce from 2009 to 2011 and taught at Stanford, Santa Clara and San Francisco State between 2012 and 2016. He lost his first congressional run in 2014, was elected to the House in 2016 and was re-elected in 2018, 2020, 2022 and 2024.
Positions
Wikipedia says Khanna describes himself as a progressive capitalist and promotes a new economic patriotism and the abundance agenda. He co-chaired Bernie Sanders's 2020 presidential campaign, is a member of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, and founded and co-chairs the Congressional Antitrust Caucus. He backs climate action, net neutrality and antitrust enforcement. Wikipedia adds that his 2025 and 2026 town halls in Republican-held districts and visits to early-voting states led several national outlets to call him a potential contender for the 2028 Democratic nomination.
