Career
Shapiro sat in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives from 2005 to 2012, served on the Montgomery County Board of Commissioners from 2012 to 2017, chairing it from 2012 to 2016, and was Pennsylvania Attorney General from 2017 to 2023. In 2022 he defeated Republican Doug Mastriano for governor with 56.5% of the vote to 41.7%. He became the 48th governor on 17 January 2023 and announced in January 2026 that he would run for a second term.
