He co-founded the hospital company Columbia Hospital Corporation, served as Governor of Florida from 2011 to 2019 and has been a U.S. Senator from Florida since 2019. He is named among the possible contenders in the 2028 US presidential election.

Career

Scott studied at the University of Missouri–Kansas City (BBA, 1975) and Southern Methodist University law school. In 1988 he co-founded Columbia Hospital Corporation, which merged with HCA to form Columbia/HCA, and he later founded the Solantic urgent care clinics. He was elected Governor of Florida in 2010 and re-elected in 2014. He won a Senate seat in 2018 against Bill Nelson and was re-elected in 2024 against Debbie Mucarsel-Powell by more than 12 points. Since January 2025 he chairs the Senate Aging Committee.
