Talarico taught middle school English from 2011 to 2013 and worked as a nonprofit education director before entering the Texas House in November 2018, serving four terms for districts 52 and 50. He won the Democratic Senate primary on 3 March 2026 with 52.4 percent over Representative Jasmine Crockett and faces Republican Attorney General Ken Paxton in the general election. He raised $27 million in the first quarter of 2026.
