Booker studied at Stanford University (BA 1991, MA 1992), Queen's College, Oxford as a Rhodes Scholar (1994) and Yale Law School (JD 1997). He sat on the Newark Municipal Council from 1998 to 2002, was the city's 38th mayor from 2006 to 2013 and has been a senator since 2013. He announced a presidential run in February 2019, suspended it in January 2020 and endorsed Joe Biden. In March and April 2025 he delivered a Senate speech of 25 hours and 5 minutes, the longest in Senate history according to Wikipedia. In 2026 he is running for a third term and faces Republican Justin Murphy.
