Erdan sat in the Knesset for Likud from 2003 to 2020. He was Minister of Environmental Protection from 2009 to 2013, Minister of Communications from 2013 to 2014, Minister of Interior from 2014 to 2015 and Minister of Public Security from 2015 to 2020, also holding the strategic affairs portfolio. He was Israel's Permanent Representative to the United Nations from 2020 to 2024. In August 2026 he founded Unity with Yuli Edelstein.
