He led the New Hope party until it merged into Likud in March 2025, and he resigned from the Knesset in July 2025 while keeping his ministerial post. He is named among the possible contenders for Prime Minister of Israel in the 2026 election, due on 27 October 2026.
Career
Sa’ar sat in the Knesset for Likud from 2003 to 2014, and was Education Minister from 2009 to 2013 and Interior Minister from 2013 to 2014. He returned to the Knesset in 2019, and was Justice Minister from 2021 to 2022 in the government of Naftali Bennett and Yair Lapid. He became Foreign Minister in 2024. After New Hope merged into Likud in March 2025 he received reserved slots on the party's list.
