Díaz studied law at the University of Santiago de Compostela and worked as a labour lawyer. She became Minister of Labour and Social Economy in 2020 and Second Deputy Prime Minister in 2021. She led the Sumar movement from 2023 and stepped down as its leader in June 2024 after poor European election results.
