România (SOS) is a Romanian political party founded on 23 November 2021 by Maricel Viziteu and Gabriel and Adeluța Gib, led since May 2022 by Diana Șoșoacă. Reference works describe it as far-right, ultranationalist and Eurosceptic. It entered the national parliament in the 2024 elections and is named in the 2026 question on which parties will form the next Romanian government.
History
S.O.S. România was founded on 23 November 2021 by Maricel Viziteu and the spouses Gabriel and Adeluța Gib. It came to prominence in May 2022, when senator Diana Șoșoacă, who had left the Alliance for the Union of Romanians and then AUR, joined and became its president. In the 2024 European Parliament election it took 5.03% and two seats; in the 2024 national election Romanian Wikipedia gives it about 7.3 to 7.5%, its first entry into parliament, with 27 deputies and 11 senators at the start. By June 2025 departures to other parties had reduced it to 22 deputies and 9 senators.
Positions
English Wikipedia lists the party's ideology as Romanian ultranationalism, social conservatism and hard Euroscepticism, and describes it as far-right. Șoșoacă argues for Romania's withdrawal from the European Union and NATO and for territorial claims including Northern Bukovina and Bessarabia. Romanian Wikipedia likewise lists opposition to EU and NATO membership, irredentist claims on Ukrainian territory and opposition to recognising sexual-minority rights. The party officially opposes Russian and Chinese dictatorships, while Wikipedia notes pro-Russian sympathies.
