The party was established on 21 November 2009 by the merger of four organisations and registered on 10 February 2010. It peaked in 2011 with 28.62% of the vote and 28 seats. In 2022 it fell to 4.86%, below the 5% threshold, and lost all seats; in 2026 it won 0.82%. It holds one seat in the European Parliament, down from two after the 2024 elections. About 120 members from eastern Latvia left in 2023 after internal disputes, and part of its support moved to For Stability!.
