She was MP for Mississauga—Streetsville from 2008 to 2011, Mayor of Mississauga from 2014 to 2024, and leader of the Ontario Liberal Party from December 2023 to January 2026. She is named as a candidate in the 2026 Mississauga mayoral election.

Career

Crombie studied political science at the University of Toronto and earned an MBA at York University's Schulich School of Business. She worked in marketing at McDonald's Canada and Disney and in government relations at the Insurance Bureau of Canada. She won Mississauga—Streetsville federally in 2008 and lost it in 2011, then won a Ward 5 council by-election that year. She was elected mayor in 2014, re-elected in 2018 and 2022, and resigned in January 2024 to lead the Ontario Liberals. In the 2025 Ontario election she placed second in Mississauga East—Cooksville, and she received 57 percent in a September 2025 leadership review.

Positions

Wikipedia reports that she called herself "a very centrist person" during the leadership race and describes her as fiscally conservative, on the party's centre-right. She said in 2024 she would not impose a provincial carbon tax, called the federal carbon tax "wrong" in December 2024, and has advocated dissolving the Region of Peel.
