A University of Pennsylvania law graduate, he served in the Legislative Yuan from 2016 to 2022 and has been the 14th mayor of Taipei since December 2022. He is the Kuomintang's candidate for a second term as Taipei mayor in the 28 November 2026 local elections.
Career
Chiang graduated from National Chengchi University in 2000 and earned an LL.M. (2004) and J.D. (2006) at the University of Pennsylvania Law School. He worked as a corporate lawyer in Silicon Valley, at Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati in 2006 and Crone Law Group in 2009-2011, then founded the Wan-tse International Law Firm. He entered politics in 2015 and represented Taipei City Constituency III in the Legislative Yuan from 2016 to 2022, serving on the Social Welfare and Environmental Hygiene Committee. In 2022 he won the Taipei mayoralty with 42.29%, ahead of the DPP's Chen Shih-chung (31.93%) and independent Huang Shan-shan (25.14%), and took office on 25 December 2022 as the city's youngest mayor at 43. He is seeking re-election in 2026 against the DPP's Puma Shen.
