It is led by two spokespersons, Daniel Helldén and Amanda Lind, and was in government from 2014 to 2021. It is named in the question whether it will be in the next Swedish government after the 2026 election.

History

The party was founded on 20 September 1981 out of the anti-nuclear movement after the 1980 nuclear referendum. It entered the Riksdag in 1988 with 5.5 percent and 20 seats, the first new party to do so in seventy years. Its peak was 25 seats and 7.3 percent in 2010. It served in the Social Democratic-led cabinets from October 2014 to November 2021, its first time in government, and Wikipedia reports 22 seats and 6.12 percent in 2026. It always has one male and one female spokesperson.

Positions

Wikipedia places the party centre-left and says it stresses environmental protection, climate action and social justice, with principles of ecological wisdom and solidarity with people, animals and future generations. It favours phasing out nuclear power in favour of renewables.
