Career

Born in Kikinda, Jovanov holds a law degree from the University of Belgrade and a specialist degree in political parties and elections from its Faculty of Political Science. He joined the Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS) in 2001, sat on Kikinda's municipal council in 2008, was elected to the Vojvodina assembly in 2012 and led the DSS in Vojvodina in 2014–15, becoming a party vice-president before resigning in May 2015. He joined the SNS in August 2015, was re-elected to the provincial assembly in 2016 as head of its SNS group and was vice-president of the SNS main board from 2016 to 2021. Elected to the National Assembly in 2020, 2022 and 2023, he has headed the SNS coalition's group and chaired the committee on administrative, budgetary, mandate and immunity issues since 2022.

Positions

In May 2014, as a DSS official, Jovanov proposed 'language patrols' to find out in how many places in Vojvodina citizens of Hungarian nationality did not speak Serbian. In June 2025 he told parliament that the students he accused of attacking two fellow students were 'not children' but 'Nazis and terrorists'; Democratic Party MP Zoran Lutovac set this against his earlier proposal. In September 2026 he opened an SNS 'black box' exhibition in Kragujevac of what he called the violence of the 'blockaders', the government's term for protesting students, saying they had nothing to offer but violence and chaos, and he wrote that they might recover from their election defeat but not from hatred. After the vote he congratulated the winners and promised 'no retreat and no surrender' in opposition.
