He has sat in the National Assembly since 2012, where N1 describes him as an MP of the ruling Serbian Progressive Party (SNS), and has chaired its agriculture committee. He was 52nd on the list Aleksandar Vučić – United Serbia, which came second in the Serbian parliamentary election of 25 October 2026.
Career
Rističević studied at a college of work organisation, worked at the IMT motor and tractor works from 1979 to 1985 and has farmed his own land since 1986. A member of the NSS since its founding in 1990 and later its secretary, he became its president in 2002. He was secretary of the Vojvodina Coalition from 1996 to 2003 and an Otpor activist detained twice in 2000. He sat in the National Assembly from 1998 until 2003, when his mandate was annulled after the NSS was expelled from the Vojvodina Coalition, and was president of the Inđija municipal assembly from 2004 until his removal in 2007. He ran for president in 2004 (0.33%) and 2008 (0.45%), backing Tomislav Nikolić in the 2008 runoff, and was a finalist of the reality show Farma in 2010. Back in the Assembly since 2012, he has chaired its Committee on Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management; in December 2024 protesting farmers' associations demanded his removal from that post, along with the agriculture minister.
Positions
Rističević has built a public image as a peasant farmer and once parked his tractor in front of the National Assembly. In 2021 he tabled a draft resolution condemning all crimes in and around Srebrenica from 1992 to 1995, denial of crimes, manipulation of victim numbers and what it called selective justice by international and national courts, and proposing 11 and 12 July as days of remembrance for all victims of the wars in former Yugoslavia. In February 2024 he proposed amendments to the electronic media law to restrict what he called the "Luxembourg TV stations", N1 and Nova S. Defending them in October 2025, he said the channels supported "illegal violent activities of the opposition" with foreign help, and that order had to be brought to the media, education and the judiciary, which he said were destroying the state.
Controversies
In December 2017 Slađana Gluščević, a journalist of the Vojvodina Investigative-Analytic Centre (VOICE), said Rističević had insulted and sworn at her on the phone when she asked about a provincial grant his farm received for machinery. He replied that his farm had applied like thousands of others through an Inđija agency, and called VOICE political opponents posing as journalists.
