A leader of the "Plush Revolution" protests against Slobodan Milošević, he was Serbia's culture minister from 2001 to 2004 and later led the Christian Democratic Party of Serbia and, in 2020, a Democratic Party faction. He was 15th on the list Aleksandar Vučić – United Serbia, which came second in the Serbian parliamentary election of 25 October 2026.
Career
Lečić graduated in acting from Belgrade's Faculty of Dramatic Arts in 1978 and has been in the Yugoslav Drama Theatre company since 1980. His films include Silent Gunpowder (1990), which won him the Golden Arena at Pula and the Silver St. George at Moscow, and The Professional (2003). He was culture minister in the governments of Zoran Đinđić and Zoran Živković (2001–2004). He co-founded the Liberal Democratic Party in 2005, left it in 2007, ran his movement My Serbia in 2008 and merged it into the Christian Democratic Party of Serbia, which he later led. In 2020 he led a Democratic Party faction against its leader Zoran Lutovac, who expelled him; the faction elected him party president that September, when he said the SNS now faced a serious opponent. In February 2021 the ministry refused to register him as leader, and he founded the Democrats of Serbia movement.
