History

The party was founded on 17 October 1904 in Stockholm as the General Electoral League to organise conservatives in the Riksdag. It was led by Carl Bildt from 1986 to 1999, who headed the government from 1991 to 1994, and by Fredrik Reinfeldt from 2003 to 2015, who led a coalition government from 2006 to 2014 when the party won its best result, 30.1 percent in 2010. Ulf Kristersson became leader in 2017. The party took 19.1 percent in 2022 and, according to Wikipedia, 19.85 percent and 70 seats in 2026.

Positions

Wikipedia describes the party as liberal-conservative, favouring free markets, tax cuts, civil liberties and economic liberalism. It supports membership of the European Union and NATO and same-sex marriage.
