Born in Waitara in 1977, Sepuloni trained as a teacher at the Auckland College of Education and the University of Auckland, and later worked in alternative education and Pacific health research. She was a Labour list MP from 2008 to 2011, lost the Waitakere seat in 2011 by nine votes after a judicial recount, and has held Kelston since 2014. In government from 2017 to 2023 she was Minister for Social Development, and from 2020 Minister for Arts, Culture and Heritage and for ACC. She was Deputy Prime Minister in 2023 and has been Labour deputy leader since November 2023.
