It was in government from 1998 to 2019 and has sat in opposition since, with 22 seats won in 2021. It is named in the Morocco legislative election of 23 September 2026.

History

Ali Yata founded the PPS in August 1974 as successor to the Party of Liberation and Socialism, itself descended from the Moroccan Communist Party (1943–1960). Yata led it until 1997, Ismail Alaoui until 2010 and Nabil Benabdallah since. It rose from one seat in 1977 to nine in 1997, then entered coalition governments from 1998 to 2019 under several prime ministers. It peaked at 17 seats in 2007 while in government. It left the government in October 2019 for the opposition and won a record 22 seats in 2021, enough for its first parliamentary group.
