History
Mahjoubi Aherdane and Abdelkrim al-Khatib founded the party on 28 September 1957 as a rural, conservative party loyal to the monarchy. Al-Khatib broke away in 1967 to form a movement that became the Justice and Development Party. Aherdane was removed as leader in 1986 and Mohand Laenser took over, while Aherdane founded the National Popular Movement in 1991. The branches merged in March 2006. The party won 41 seats in 2007, 32 in 2011, 27 in 2016 and 28 in 2021. Mohammed Ouzzine has been secretary general since 2022.
