History
The party traces to the Constitutional Democratic Popular Movement founded by Abdelkrim al-Khatib in 1967 and took its present form in 1998 with members of the Movement of Unity and Reform. Leaders have been al-Khatib (to 1996 and 1998–2004), Abdelilah Benkirane (1996–1998, 2008–2017, 2021 on) and Saadeddine Othmani (2004–2008, 2017–2021). It won 107 seats in 2011 and 125 in 2016, leading coalition governments, then 13 seats (4.30%) in 2021, called a crushing defeat. In 2026 it won 54 seats (15.09%), and said it would stay in opposition.
