It advocates Arab nationalism and belongs to the March 8 Alliance. It holds 1 of 128 seats. It is named in the 2026 Lebanese parliamentary election race.

History

The branch was set up in 1949 to 1950 and took its name in 1953 after merging with Akram Hourani's Arab Socialist Party. In the civil war of 1975 to 1991 it ran the Assad Battalion of about 2,000 fighters and worked with Kamal Jumblatt's Progressive Socialist Party in the Lebanese National Movement. Assem Qanso was its longest-serving secretary; Ali Hijazi has led it since 2021, and a leadership dispute began in 2015. In December 2025 Hijazi announced a rebranding as the National Banner Party; Qanso rejected it and set up a separate faction keeping the Ba'ath name. It won 1 of 128 seats in 2022.
