Suleiman Frangieh founded Marada in 1967 as a militia and led it until 1976; the leadership has stayed in the Frangieh family, and Suleiman Frangieh Jr. is president today. In 2009 it won all three seats of the Zgharta district, in 2018 it won three seats (two Maronite, one Orthodox) and in 2022 only one of its official candidates was elected, a decline in its representation. It holds 2 of 128 seats and no cabinet post.
