Career
Wauquiez was born on 12 April 1975 in Lyon. Under President Sarkozy he was government spokesperson (2007-2008), Minister for European Affairs (2010-2011) and Minister of Higher Education and Research (2011-2012), and he was mayor of Le Puy-en-Velay from 2008 to 2016. He presided over the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes regional council from 2016 to 2024 and over The Republicans from 2017 to 2019. In 2025 he sought the party leadership again and won 26% against Bruno Retailleau's 74%.
