A member of the Green Party of Vancouver, he has been a Vancouver city councillor since 2018. He is the Greens' candidate for Mayor of Vancouver in the municipal election of 17 October 2026.
Career
Fry owns a graphics and communications agency and was a community representative for the Downtown Eastside Local Area Plan and chair of the Strathcona Residents' Association. He ran unsuccessfully for council in 2014, was the Green candidate in the 2016 Vancouver-Mount Pleasant provincial by-election (losing to the NDP's Melanie Mark) and lost a 2017 council by-election. He was elected councillor in 2018 with the second-highest vote and re-elected in 2022 with 37,270 votes. His mother, Hedy Fry, is the federal MP for Vancouver Centre.
Positions
Fry's mayoral platform stresses housing, including low-rise apartments and wood-frame construction, the cost of living, mental health, public safety, harm reduction, small business and the arts. CTV and Daily Hive describe a 71-page Green platform that would reverse several policies of the governing ABC party and expand public services. Fry says the Greens defer to evidence-based decisions rather than showy, uncosted promises. Reporting notes the Greens have never before run a mayoral candidate.
