He has been Mayor of Vancouver since November 2022, elected for ABC Vancouver. He is seeking re-election as a candidate for Mayor of Vancouver in the 2026 election.

Career

Sim graduated from the UBC Sauder School of Business, qualified as an accountant and co-founded Nurse Next Door in 2001, later starting other businesses. He ran for mayor in 2018 for the Non-Partisan Association and finished second to Kennedy Stewart. In 2022 he stood for ABC Vancouver and defeated the sitting mayor Stewart with 50.96% of the vote, the first challenger to unseat a sitting Vancouver mayor since 1980. He is Vancouver's 41st mayor and its first of Chinese-Canadian descent.

Positions

Sim's mayoralty has centred on homelessness, housing and public safety. Early measures included quickly built work-camp housing and a plan to hire 100 nurses and 100 police officers. Ahead of 2026, Wikipedia notes that some ABC Vancouver members have left for rival groups such as the Vancouver Liberals.
