Career

Pimenta studied at the Faculdade Cásper Líbero and took part in student activism, including the 1980 refoundation congress of the National Union of Students. He has headed the PCO since December 1995. He ran for President in 2002, 2006, 2010, 2014 and 2026, and Wikipedia notes he placed last in each of the elections he ran in.

Positions

Pimenta identifies as a Marxist and Trotskyist and opposes imperialism, neoliberalism and identity politics. He supported Lula da Silva in the 2018 and 2022 elections. He opposes gender studies and what he calls gender ideology, and opposed Congressional Bill No. 896, citing a wider repressive power for the state. In March 2024 he met the Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh.
