Positions

Wikipedia describes Meloni as conservative and right-wing populist; she calls her views Eurorealist, and she supports NATO. She opposes euthanasia, same-sex marriage and same-sex parenting. Her government tightened immigration enforcement, removed Covid-19 vaccination certificate requirements, banned cultivated meat in 2023 and passed a differentiated autonomy law for regions. It has also proposed direct election of the prime minister and a justice reform; critics, including Amnesty International, have objected to its immigration and security policies. In March 2026 voters rejected the justice reform in a referendum.
