Tajani joined Forza Italia in 1994 and was a Member of the European Parliament from 1994 to 2008. He was European Commissioner for Transport from 2008 to 2010 and for Industry and Entrepreneurship from 2010 to 2014, then returned to the Parliament from 2014 to 2022, serving as its President from 2017 to 2019. Since October 2022 he has been Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, and since July 2023, after Silvio Berlusconi's death in June, secretary of Forza Italia.
