Taylor studied at the University of Sydney and, as a Rhodes Scholar, at Oxford, then worked at McKinsey, becoming a partner, and in agribusiness. He won Hume in 2013 and was a minister from 2016: cities and digital transformation, law enforcement and cybersecurity, then energy and emissions reduction from 2018 to 2022. Positions
Wikipedia places Taylor in the National Right faction of the Liberal Party. He emphasises lower energy costs and market-based solutions, opposes what he calls net-zero ideology, and favours tighter immigration. He took the leadership after the Coalition polled historically low while One Nation rose in the polls.
Controversies
In 2019 Taylor sent the Lord Mayor of Sydney, Clover Moore, figures on council travel spending that proved to be wrong and were taken from an altered document. He apologised, and the AFP closed its inquiry in 2020, saying there was no evidence he was involved in falsifying it. Other disputes of 2019, including over a grasslands matter, are recorded by Wikipedia.
