Career

Osmani studied law at the University of Pristina (BA 2004) and the University of Pittsburgh (LLM 2005, SJD 2015), and taught at both and at RIT Kosovo. A Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) activist, she was chief of staff to President Fatmir Sejdiu in 2009 and served three terms as an MP. She was the LDK's prime ministerial candidate in 2019, and became Speaker of the Assembly in February 2020. Removed as LDK deputy leader in June 2020, she left the party in September 2020. After President Hashim Thaçi resigned in November 2020 she became acting president. She stood on Vetëvendosje's list in the 2021 election, gaining over 300,000 votes. The Assembly elected her president in the third round, with 71 of 82 votes, and she took office on 4 April 2021 after stepping down as Guxo leader. Her term ended on 4 April 2026 without a successor being elected.
