Career

Alexis was born in Victoria and studied at the University of Victoria, earning a fine arts degree in 1980 and a teaching certificate in 1982. She taught English in Japan and Texas before settling in Mission in 1994. She served as a Mission school trustee from 2005 to 2008, a district councillor from 2014 to 2018 and mayor from 2018 to 2020. In 2020 she won Abbotsford-Mission for the BC NDP with 41.07 per cent, defeating the incumbent Liberal. She became Minister of Agriculture and Food in December 2022. In 2024 she lost the seat to Conservative Reann Gasper by 55.38 to 44.62 per cent.

Positions

Alexis sits with the BC NDP, which Wikipedia places at the centre-left and describes as social democratic. In her 2024 nomination statement she said the Fraser Valley is growing quickly and that people need action on housing, health care and affordability. During the 2026 by-election campaign the party said she was working on health care and housing, while criticising the Conservatives for focusing on cultural disputes. Premier David Eby, the party's leader, has praised her fairness, openness and teamwork.
